Medicine Refills & Phone Calls

Prescription Refills
Please call for prescription refills during our regular hours, Monday-Friday. We ask for a 48 hour notice for prescription refills. We do use “Surescripts”, enabling us to send or receive prescription requests to/from your pharmacy electronically. We ask that you provide us with your preferred pharmacy to enter into our system. The only prescriptions that cannot be processed electronically are controlled substances, such as medications for the treatment of ADHD.

Telephone Calls
Olson Pediatrics has registered nurses on staff to answer your medical questions. It is our priority to have your primary pediatrician’s nurse return your call when possible to provide excellent continuity of care. We attempt to answer phone messages within 2 hours. If you have an emergency, let us know and a nurse or doctor will speak with you immediately. Whenever possible we will address your problem over the phone or in our office, saving you a trip to the Emergency Department.

Outside of our office hours we utilize the Pediatric Advice Line Service through Randall Children’s Hospital whose pediatric-trained nurses are well equipped to answer your questions. Our physicians are on-call 24 hours a day when nurses or families have more urgent concerns.

It is our office policy not to call out antibiotics over the phone. This is the best approach for the optimal health of your child and not meant to inconvenience you. Excessive use of antibiotics for routine viral infections is inappropriate and leads to increased antibiotic resistance and unnecessary side effects to your child. If your child needs a refill of any other medication, please have your pharmacy fax a request.
